APPLICATIONS & SURFACE IMPROVEMENTS

Activation

Atmospheric and vacuum plasma pre-treatment are highly eJective methods for surface activation prior to bonding, coating, or printing. In atmospheric plasma treatment, a plasma jet or rotary nozzle operates at ambient pressure to clean and activate the surface inline, removing organic contaminants and increasing surface energy without the need for a vacuum chamber. In contrast, vacuum plasma treatment takes place inside a sealed chamber where controlled gas mixtures (such as oxygen or argon) generate a uniform plasma, enabling deeper cleaning and more homogeneous activation, especially for complex geometries or batch processing. Both processes modify the surface at a molecular level by introducing polar functional groups, significantly improving wettability and adhesion properties. The choice between atmospheric and vacuum plasma depends on production requirements, material type, and desired treatment uniformity.

Keylink Plasma Systems can improve surface activation by precisely controlling process parameters such as gas composition, power, and exposure time in both atmospheric and vacuum plasma systems to achieve higher surface energy, enhanced cleanliness, and optimized adhesion performance.
